Great and Holy Friday is a day of lamentation: our Lord and God is crucified and laid in the tomb. “He who hung the earth upon the waters is hung upon the Cross.” At the Vespers of Holy Friday
we do not receive the Eucharist, but rather carry the Holy Shroud around the church and place it in the tomb. We keep vigil in the Church, singing lamentations with His mother and anxiously await His rising on the third day.
